1. What it is Calmatel and what it is used
Calmatel contains piketoprofen and belongs to the group of medicines called nonsteroidal antiinflammatory medicines (NSAIDs).
This medicine is indicated in adolescents over 12 years and adults for local pain relief and mild and occasional inflammation caused by:
- Small contusions, bruises, strains
- Torticollis or other contractures
- Slight sprains caused as a result of a twist
2. What you need to know before you start using Calmatel
Do not use Calmatel
- If you are allergic to piketoprofen or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6). Discontinue treatment if signs of allergy appear.
- If aspirin and other nonsteroidal antiinflammatory medicines (a type of medicine used to reduce inflammation and pain) produces rhinitis, asthma, angioedema (allergic reaction that can cause swelling in the face, eyes, or tongue and difficulty swallowing or breathing) or urticaria.
Warnings and Precautions
Consult your doctor, pharmacist or nurse before using Calmatel.
This medicine should be used exclusively in the affected area. Not for use in large areas.
Apply with caution cream on the skin avoiding contact with eyes, mucous membranes, ulcers or open sores or other conditions.
It is recommended to avoid sun exposure and / or UVA rays during treatment with piketoprofen and up to two weeks after the last application.
It is recommended to wash your hands after applying the medicine.
It is not recommended to use together with products containing octocrylene (excipient used in various cosmetic and hygiene products, eg sunscreens, shampoos, etc.) because reactions may occur in the skin.
In case of occurrence of skin reactions, you should immediately discontinue treatment and consult your doctor.
The use of this medicine in children (under 12 years) is not recommended.
Calmatel use with other medicines
Tell your doctor or pharmacist that you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines.
Pregnancy, lactation and fertility
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, you think you may be pregnant or planning to become pregnant, ask your doctor or pharmacist before using this medicine. The use of medicines during pregnancy can be dangerous for the embryo or fetus and should be monitored by your doctor.
It is unknown whether piketoprofen be excreted in breast milk. Your doctor will tell you whether to use this medicine during breastfeeding.
Driving and using machines
By its method of administration, this medicine does not affect the ability to drive or to operate machinery.
Calmatel contains cetostearyl alcohol, cetyl alcohol and benzyl benzoate.
This medicine may cause local skin reactions (eg contact dermatitis)
it contains cetostearyl alcohol and cetyl alcohol.
This medicine may be mildly irritating to the skin, eyes and mucous membranes because it contains benzyl benzoate.
3. Using Calmatel
Follow exactly the instructions of medicine administration in this leaflet or as your doctor, pharmacist or nurse. If in doubt, ask your doctor, pharmacist or nurse.
Adolescents over 12 years and adults:
As a general rule, it shall apply in the affected area, from 1.5 to 2 g of cream about 3 times a day.
Method of administration
Exclusively for cutaneous administration.
Calmatel apply accompanied by a gentle massage to facilitate penetration. Its application after massage can produce a sensation of heat.
If symptoms do not improve within 7 days should stop treatment and seek medical advice.
If you use more than you should Calmatel
In case of overdose or accidental ingestion, immediately consult your doctor or pharmacist, go to the nearest or consult your local poison control center hospital, phone: +34 915 620 420 (indicating the medicine and the amount used / ingested).
It not submitted any poisoning to date.
If you forget to Calmatel
a double dose is not applied to compensate for a forgotten dose. Apply the missed dose when you remember and then continue with your regular schedule. However, if few hours for the next application missing, not the missed dose and wait for the next dose applied to regular time dose is applied.
