What Hodernal is and what it is used for

Hodernal belongs to a group of medicines called stool softeners,

These drugs work by covering the stool with a layer that makes them remain soft and lubricated, thus facilitating their transit through the intestine and their subsequent evacuation.

Hodernal is indicated for the symptomatic relief of occasional constipation in adults and children over 6 years of age.

You should consult a doctor if no stool occurs after 72 hours after maximum daily administration or if it worsens or does not improve after 6 days.

How to take Hodernal

Always take this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. If in doubt, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

The recommended dose in adults and children over 12 years is 15 ml of oral solution or one tablespoon (12 g of liquid paraffin) once a day, before bedtime. If necessary, repeat the dose of 15 ml of oral solution or one tablespoon (12 g liquid paraffin) in the morning, on an empty stomach or two hours after breakfast.

Do not take more than 30 ml of oral solution or two tablespoons (24 g of liquid paraffin per day).

Use in children

The recommended dose for children from 6 to 12 years old is 5 ml of oral solution or one teaspoon of coffee (4 g of liquid paraffin) once a day, before going to bed. If necessary, repeat the dose of 5 ml of oral solution or one teaspoon of coffee (4 g of liquid paraffin) in the morning, on an empty stomach or two hours after breakfast.

Do not take more than 10 ml of oral solution or two teaspoons of coffee (8 g of liquid paraffin) per day.

Hodernal Solution should not be administered to children under 6 years due to the lack of data on safety and efficacy.

Hodernal is administered orally.

It is advisable to dilute the liquid paraffin in a glass with water and take it in an upright position to avoid the passage of oil droplets to the respiratory system. It should not be taken lying down.

During treatment, you should drink plenty of fluids (up to two liters a day) to facilitate softening of the stool.

If symptoms worsen, if no stool occurs after 72 hours after maximum daily administration, or if symptoms persist after 6 days of treatment, tell your doctor or pharmacist.

If you take more Hodernal than you should

If you take more Hodernal than recommended, anal paraffin removal may occur with loss of electrolytes, cramps, cramps and muscle weakness.

In case of overdose or accidental ingestion, immediately consult your doctor or pharmacist or call the Toxicology Information Service, telephone 915 62 04 20, indicating the medicine and the amount ingested.

If you forget to take Hodernal Solution

Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.

If you have any further questions on the use of this medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
