1. What it is Hibitane and what it is used
The active ingredients of this medicine act combining antiseptic and disinfectant chlorhexidine with the local anesthetic benzocaine action.
This medicine is used for the temporary relief of local symptoms of mild throat infections that occur without fever and sore throat, irritation, hoarseness.
2. What you need to know before you start taking Hibitane
Do not take Hibitane if you are allergic to chlorhexidine, benzocaine or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6)
Take special care with Hibitane
- If you do not tolerate other local anesthetics such as para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA), parabens or para-phenylenediamine (a component of hair dye).
- If you have severe or extensive lesion in the mouth.
- If you have periodontitis (gum disease), because chlorhexidine may produce an increase in supragingival calculus.
- Do not take higher doses than recommended in paragraph 3. (Taking Hibitane).
It is recommended to maintain proper oral hygiene to reduce tartar buildup and possible staining of teeth that can cause chlorhexidine.
Hibitane use with other medicines
Tell your doctor or pharmacist that you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines.
Although not described in the recommended conditions of use, it should not be used with other medicines application in the mouth without consulting a doctor or pharmacist.
This is especially important in the case of:
- Other antiseptic mouth or throat.
- Medicine cholinesterase inhibitors (medicines for Alzheimer's).
- Sulphonamides (used for infections).
Anionic compounds and suspending agents, usual components of toothpastes, decrease the efficacy of chlorhexidine so you should rinse your mouth after using the toothpaste.
Interference with diagnostic tests
This medicine may interact with the test for determining pancreatic function using bentiromide. Do not take this medicine at least three days before the test and report to the doctor.
Pregnancy and Lactation
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding or think you might be pregnant or planning to become pregnant, consult your doctor before taking this medicine.
Use in over 65 years
The elderly and debilitated patients may be more sensitive to benzocaine.
Use in children
This medicine should not be given to children under 6 years without consulting your doctor. Children may be more sensitive to benzocaine as the elderly and debilitated patients.
Driving and using machines
No cases have been reported to affect the ability to drive or operate machinery.
3. How to take Hibitane
Follow the instructions exactly this medicine unless your doctor has told other different. If in doubt, refer back to your doctor or pharmacist.
If you believe that Hibitane action is too strong or too weak, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
The lozenge should be slowly dissolve in the mouth without chewing or swallowing, because its action is local and only occurs when the product is in direct contact with the affected area.
The recommended dose is as follows:
Adults and children over 6 years:
1 lozenge every 2 to 3 hours, slowly dissolving in the mouth. more than 8 tablets will be taken to suck in 24 hours (1 day).
slowly dissolves the lozenge in the mouth without chewing or swallowing. Use Forever and the lowest effective dose.
If you notice symptoms worsen or persist for more than 2 days after starting treatment, or appears fever, headache, nausea or vomiting, should consult a doctor as soon as possible.
If you take more than you should Hibitane
If you have taken more than you should, immediately consult your doctor, pharmacist, or call a poison control center, phone (+034) 915 62 04 20, indicating the medicine and the amount taken.
The main symptoms overdose include slurred speech, numbness, staggering gait, blurred or double vision, dizziness, excitement or seizures, ringing in the ears, increased sweating. It can also occur a decrease in blood pressure.
