1. What it is Mucosan and what it is used
Ambroxol, the active ingredient of this medicine belongs to a group of medicines called mucolytics, which act by decreasing the viscosity of mucus, fluidificándolo and facilitating their elimination.
This medication is used to facilitate removal of excess mucus and phlegm in colds and flu, for adults and adolescents from 12 years.
You should consult a doctor if worsens or does not improve after 5 days.
2. What you need to know before you start taking Mucosan
Do not take Mucosan if:
♦ If you are allergic to ambroxol hydrochloride or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).
♦ If you have any inherited disorder, which may be incompatible with any of the excipients of this medicine.
Warnings and Precautions
Consult your doctor or pharmacist before you start taking Mucosan.
If you have problems with kidney function or liver disease, consult your doctor before using this medicine.
In the case of lesions appear on the skin or mucous membranes, immediately consult the doctor and as a precaution to stop treatment with this medicine.
This medicine contains sorbitol (E-420). If your doctor has told you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before taking this medicine.
It is not indicated for use in children under 12 years old.
Taking with other medicines Mucosan
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines.
Taking Mucosan with food and drink
Mucosan can be taken with or without food.
Pregnancy, lactation and fertility
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, you think you may be pregnant or planning to become pregnant, ask your doctor or pharmacist before using this medicine.
No harmful effects have been observed during pregnancy. However, it must meet the usual precautions regarding the use of medications during pregnancy. Mucosan use especially in the first trimester of pregnancy is not recommended.
The active ingredient of this medicine, ambroxol, can pass into breast milk and although they are not expected adverse effects on the infant, should be avoided during lactation.
Studies in animals do not indicate direct or indirect harmful effects on fertility.
Driving and using machines
No no effects on the ability to drive and use machines.
3. How to take Mucosan
Follow exactly the instructions of medicine administration in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist. If in doubt ask your doctor or pharmacist.
The recommended dose is:
- Adults: 1 sachet (60 mg ambroxol hydrochloride), 2 times a day (every 12 hours), which means a daily maximum of 120 mg of ambroxol hydrochloride.
Once the patient gets better, the dose can be halved.
- Adolescents over 12 yearsold : 1 sachet (60 mg ambroxol hydrochloride) per day.
How to take:
Mucosan is taken orally.
The powder must be dissolved in water for administration.
You should drink a glass of water after each dose and plenty of fluids during the day. You should consult a doctor if worsens or does not improve after 5 days of treatment.
If you take more than you should Mucosan
If you have taken more Mucosan than you should, you may notice nausea, altered sense of taste, numbness of the pharynx, numbness of the mouth or any other side effects described in section 4 Possible side effects.
In case of overdose or accidental ingestion, consult your doctor or pharmacist, or call a poison control center, phone +34 915 620 420, indicating the medicine and the amount taken.
In case of massive accidental administration symptomatic treatment it is recommended.
4. Possible side effects
Like all medicines, Mucosan can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
May produce the following side effects:
- Common (may affect up to 1 in 10 people): nausea, altered sense of taste, numbness of the pharynx, numbness of the mouth.
- Uncommon (may affect up to 1 in 100 people): vomiting, diarrhea,
indigestion, abdominal pain, dry mouth.
- Rare (may affect up to 1 in 1,000 people): rash, urticaria, dry throat.
- Not known (can not be estimated from available data): severe allergic reaction, shock caused by an allergic reaction, allergic reactions, swelling of the skin or mucous membranes, itching.
5. Conservation Mucosan
Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children. It does not require any special storage conditions.
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date on the carton after EXP. The expiry date is the last day of that month.
Medicines should not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste. Place containers and medicines no longer required at the point SIGRE pharmacy. If in doubt, ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required. This way you will help to protect the environment.
6. Contents of the pack and other information
Composition of Mucosan
- The active ingredient is ambroxol hydrochloride. Each sachet of powder contains 60 mg of ambroxol hydrochloride.
- The other ingredients are saccharin sodium, sorbitol (E 420) and raspberry flavor.
Looks like and contents of the pack
Mucosan comes in boxes of 20 sachets of powder. It is a white powder and smelling of raspberry.
