What Algesal is and what it is used for
Algesal is a cutaneous foam to be applied to the skin that contains mirtecaine lauryl sulfate (local anesthetic) and diethylamine salicylate (anti-inflammatory and analgesic). This medication belongs to the group of topical medications for muscle and joint pain.
Algesal is indicated for local symptomatic relief of muscle, joint and rheumatic pain such as sprains, torticollis, lumbago and others of a similar nature, in adults and children over 7 years of age.
You should see a doctor if you get worse or if you do not get better after 7 days.

What you need to know before you use Algesal
Do not use Algesal if:
- if you are allergic to mirtecaine lauryl sulfate, diethylamine salicylate (or other salicylates) or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).
- if you are pregnant or breast-feeding (see section “pregnancy and breast-feeding”).
- in children under 7 years of age.

Warnings and precautions
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using Algesal.
You should stop treatment and see a doctor if you experience any of the side effects described in section 4 of the leaflet “Possible side effects” of this leaflet.
Do not use this medication if you are asthmatic as you are a population at risk for allergy to salicylates.
- Do not apply on fragile skin, mucous membranes, eyes or sensitive parts (for example, wounds).
- Do not apply on open wounds, suppurative dermatitis, eczema or skin infections.
- Do not apply with occlusive dressings.
- This medication can produce moderate keratosis at the application site. To prevent it from occurring, you should perform a gentle massage.
- Using more than the recommended dose or applying more frequently does not improve the result.

Other medicines and Algesal
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines.
Although no interaction of Algesal with other medicines has been described so far, it is not recommended to apply other preparations for cutaneous use in the same area without consulting your doctor.

Pregnancy and lactation
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist before using this medicine.
Few data are available on the use of the drug during pregnancy and lactation. For this reason, its use is discouraged.

Driving and using machines
No effects on the ability to drive and use machines have been described.

Algesal contains cetyl alcohol and terpene derivatives
This medicine can cause local skin reactions (such as contact dermatitis) because it contains cetyl alcohol.
This medicine contains lavender essence with linalool, coumarin, d-limonene, citronellol and amylcinnamaldehyde. Linalool, coumarin, d-limonene, citronellol and amylcinnamaldehyde can cause allergic reactions. The terpenic derivatives of this excipient can lower the epiloptogenic threshold and lead to neurological accidents such as seizures in infants and children in excessive doses.

How to use Algesal
Follow exactly the instructions for administration of the medicine contained in this leaflet or those indicated by your doctor or pharmacist. If in doubt, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Adults and children over 7 years
Apply 2 or 3 times a day on the painful/affected area, practicing a gentle massage, until completely absorbed. The container should be shaken for a few seconds before use. Spray keeping the container in a vertical position as close as possible to the painful area. Do not tilt the bottle during use.
Wash hands after each application to avoid inadvertent contact with eyes and mucous membranes. Do not bandage the application area
This medicine is for cutaneous use (exclusively on the skin). Do not administer on a large surface of the skin. Use exclusively on the affected area.

Use in children
Do not use in children under 7 years of age.
