What Normofludil is and what it is used for
Normofludil with acetylcysteine belongs to a group of medicines called mucolytics.
It works by reducing the viscosity of mucus, thinning it and facilitating its elimination.
This medicine is indicated to reduce the viscosity of mucus and phlegm, facilitating its expulsion, in colds and flu, for adults and adolescents from 12 years of age.
You should consult a doctor if you get worse or if you do not improve after 5 days of treatment.
What you need to know before you start taking Normofludil
Do not take Normofludil if:
- If you are allergic to acetylcysteine and its derivatives, or to any of the other components of this medicine.
- If you suffer from a stomach or duodenal ulcer.
Warnings and precautions
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Normofludil.
- If you are asthmatic or suffer from a serious respiratory illness.
The possible sulfuric smell (like rotten eggs) of the medicine is typical of the active ingredient, but does not indicate that the medicine is in poor condition.
- If you notice stomach discomfort when taking the medication. In this case, you should stop treatment and consult your doctor.
During the first days of treatment you may observe an increase in mucus and phlegm, which will decrease throughout the treatment.
Children and adolescents.
This medication cannot be taken by children under 12 years of age. There are other presentations that are more suitable for this population.
Other medications and Normofludil
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines.
You should not take this medication if you are being treated with antitussive (cough) medications or those that decrease bronchial secretions (such as antihistamines and anticholinergics), as this may cause a buildup of thinned mucus.
When you are taking any medication that contains minerals such as iron or calcium, or any medication with type antibiotics (amphotericin B, ampicillin sodium, cephalosporins, lactobionate, erythromycin and some tetracyclines) you should separate your intake from Normofludil by at least 2 hours.
Taking Normofludil with food and drinks
Taking food and drinks does not affect its effectiveness.
The medication can be taken with or without food.
Pregnancy and lactation
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
This medication should not be taken during pregnancy or breast-feeding.
Driving and using machines
Normofludil may cause drowsiness. If you become drowsy, do not drive or use dangerous machinery.
Normofludil contains sorbitol (E-420), aspartame (E-951) and yellow-orange S (E-110).
This medicine contains 10 mg of aspartame in each sachet.
Aspartame contains a source of phenylalanine which can be harmful if you have phenylketonuria (FCN), a rare genetic disease in which phenylalanine accumulates because the body is not able to eliminate it properly.
This medicine contains 723.5 mg of sorbitol in each sachet. Sorbitol is a source of fructose. If your doctor has told you that you (or your child) have an intolerance to certain sugars, or have been diagnosed with hereditary fructose intolerance (IHF), a rare genetic disease in which the patient cannot break down fructose, Consult you (or your child) with your doctor before taking this medicine.
Sorbitol may cause gastrointestinal upset and a slight laxative effect.
This medicine may cause allergic reactions because it contains yellow-orange S (E-110). It can cause asthma, especially in patients allergic to acetylsalicylic acid.
How to take Normofludil
Exactly follow the medication administration instructions contained in this leaflet or as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. If in doubt, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

The usual doses of Normofludil are:
Adults: 1 sachet, 3 times a day. Do not exceed the dose of 3 sachets per day.
How to drink:
Normofludil is taken orally.
Dissolve the contents of the sachet in a glass of water.
It is recommended to drink plenty of fluids during the day.
You should consult a doctor if you get worse or if you do not improve after 5 days of treatment.
Use in children and adolescents
Patients between 12 and 18 years: administer 1 sachet, 3 times a day. Do not exceed the dose of 3 sachets per day.
Children under 12 years of age cannot take this medicine.
