1. What it is Viscoteína and what it is used
Viscoteína belongs to a group of medicines called mucolytics, and is used to liquefy excessive and / or thick bronchial secretions, facilitating their elimination.
2. Before taking Viscoteína
Do not take Viscoteína if:
- If you are allergic (hypersensitive) to Carbocisteine and derivatives thereof, or any of the other ingredients of Viscoteína.
- If you have stomach ulcers or duodenum.
- This medicine should not be given to children under 2 years old.
- If you have severe asthma or respiratory failure.
Take special care with Viscoteína:
- If you have liver failure or severe renal
- In elderly patients, who are particularly susceptible to the adverse effects of Carbocisteine.
- During the first s days it is normal to increase expectoration, but if symptoms persist more than 5 days or worsen, you should consult your doctor.
Using other medicines:
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, even those not recipe.
Consult your doctor before taking Viscoteína if you are taking medicines that decrease cough or bronchial secretions.
Pregnancy and lactation
Consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking any medicine.
Do not take this medicine during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
IMPORTANT FOR WOMEN
If you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant, consult your doctor before taking this medicine. Medicine use during pregnancy can be dangerous for the embryo or fetus and should be monitored by your doctor.
Driving and using machines
There have been no interference on driving and / or use machines if you are taking Viscoteína.
Important information about some of the ingredients of Viscoteína
This medicine contains sucrose. If your doctor has told you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before taking this medicine.
Patients with diabetes mellitus should be aware that this medicine contains 1.5 g of sucrose per 5 ml.
It can cause allergic reactions (possibly delayed) because it contains methyl parahydroxybenzoate, sodium salt (E219) and
propyl parahydroxybenzoate, sodium salt (E-217).
Patients with sodium diet should be aware that this medicine contains 44.62 mg sodium per dose of 5 ml and
133.86 mg of sodium per dose of 15 ml.
3. How to take Viscoteína
Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you have doubts.
This medicine is given orally, either alone or diluted in water or other liquid, preferably before meals. The usual dose is:
- Adults and children over 12 years old: 15 ml (750 mg of Carbocisteine) three times a day.
- Children from 5 to 12 years old: 5 ml (250 mg of Carbocisteine) three times a day.
- Children from 2 to 5 years old: 2.5 ml (125 mg of Carbocisteine) three times a day. You should drink plenty of fluids during the day.
Instructions for proper administration of the preparation
In order to ensure proper dosing and given its use in pediatric dosing is recommended using the measuring cup included in the presentation that has marked the following measures: 2.5 ml, 5 ml, 7.5 ml, 10 ml and 15 ml.
Place the measuring cup on a flat surface and at eye level. Fill it with the solution to the line that indicates your dose.
After use, wash the measuring cup with water.
If symptoms worsen or persist after 5 days, or occurs: fever, skin rash, persistent headache or sore throat, you should consult a doctor.
If you take more than you should Viscoteína:
Accidental ingestion of very high doses may cause hypersensitivity reactions, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, gastrointestinal bleeding, etc.
Viscoteína If you take more than you should, immediately consult your doctor or pharmacist or call the poison control center, phone: +34 91 562 0420, indicating the medicine and the amount taken.
If you forget to take Viscoteína:
Do not take a double dose to make up for missed doses.
If you have any further questions on the use of this product, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
4. Possible side effects
Like all medicines, Viscoteína can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
The observed adverse effects are described below by frequency of occurrence: Very common (affecting more than 1 in 10 patients) Common (affects 1 to 10 users in 100 patients), Uncommon (affecting between 1 and 10 in every 1,000 patients), rare (affects 1 to 10 users in 10,000) Very rare (affects less than 1 in 10,000 patients).
Common side effects (affecting between 1 and 10 in every 100 patients):
Digestive discomfort may occur (gastric discomfort, nausea, diarrhea), especially at high doses, which usually disappear with the reduction of the administered dose.
Rare side effects (affecting between 1 and 10 in 10,000 patients):
Hypersensitivity reactions (allergic reactions), accompanied by urticaria (hives and itching appearance), headache, skin rashes.
Very rare side effects (affecting less than 1 in 10,000 patients):
Bronchospasm (sudden feeling of difficulty breathing as occurs in asthma). In these cases it is advisable to discontinue treatment and consult a doctor.
If any of the side effects gets serious, or if you notice any side effects not listed in this leaflet, tell your doctor or pharmacist.
5. Conservation Viscoteína
Keep out of reach and sight of children. It does not require any special storage conditions.
Do not use Viscoteína after the expiration date on the carton after EXP. The expiry date is the last day of that month.
Medicines should not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste. Place containers and medicines no longer required at the point SIGRE pharmacy. If in doubt, ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required. This way you will help to protect the environment.
6. Further information
- The active substance is Carbocisteine. Each ml of oral solution contains 50 mg of Carbocisteine.
- The other ingredients are: sucrose, sodium saccharin, methyl parahydroxybenzoate, sodium salt (E219), propyl parahydroxybenzoate, sodium salt (E217), caramel color (E150), caramel aroma, sodium hydroxide to adjust pH purified water.
