What Calmiox is and what it is used for
It is a medicine for cutaneous use that contains hydrocortisone, a corticosteroid that relieves itchy skin.
It is indicated for temporary local symptomatic relief of skin itching (but not pain) due to minor skin irritations, allergies due to contact with soaps, detergents, metals, insect bites and nettles.

What you need to know before you use Calmiox
Do not use Calmiox if:
- if you are allergic to the active substance or to any of the other ingredients of this medicine listed in section 6.
- if you have infected skin, wounds, acne, foot fungus (also called athlete's foot), in the case of ulcers in bedridden patients, as well as rashes or diaper rashes.
- if you have any type of infection in the area to be treated.
Do not apply this medication to the eyes or to the anal, genital or oral mucous membranes, as it is only for external use on the skin.

Warnings and precautions
Contact your doctor if you experience blurred vision or other visual disturbances.
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using Calmiox.

Take special care with Calmiox if:
- if you have diabetes as it can alter your control.
- if you suffer from tuberculosis since it can worsen the infection or appear other new infections.
- if the area to be treated is infected, since it will be necessary to treat with another medication.
- if you have very fragile skin or bruise easily as this medicine can increase skin thinning.
- if you have any liver problems.
when applied to large areas and also occlusive dressings are used as side effects may appear, especially in children.
- if it is used in children, since the risk of adverse effects is greater, especially if it is used in large areas and with occlusive dressings.
You should avoid any contact with the eyes or nearby areas. Application to the eye can increase eye pressure, especially if you have open-angle glaucoma.
do not exceed the recommended dose, or use it in areas other than intended.
in case of bleeding consult the doctor as soon as possible.
check with your doctor if symptoms worsen or persist for more than 7 days.
do not insert this product into the rectum.
avoid contact with mucous membranes and wash hands thoroughly after use.
 
Using Calmiox with other medicines
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines.
Although interactions between Calmiox and other medications have not been described, it should not be used simultaneously with other preparations in the same area, unless prescribed by a doctor.

Interferences with diagnostic tests
Calmiox can interfere with the results of diagnostic tests of adrenal function, which may decrease, as well as with blood and urine sugar (glucose) concentrations, which may be increased if the drug has been absorbed.

Pregnancy and lactation
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist before using this medicine.

Driving and using machines
No effects have been described that affect driving or using machines.

Important information about some of the ingredients of Calmiox
This medicine can cause local skin reactions (such as contact dermatitis) because it contains bronopol.
This medicine can be slightly irritating to the skin, eyes and mucous membranes because it contains benzoic acid (E210).
This medicine may cause local skin reactions (such as contact dermatitis) or irritation of the eyes and mucous membranes because it contains butylated hydroxyanisole (E320).

How to use Calmiox
Follow exactly the instructions for administration of the medicine contained in this leaflet or those indicated by your doctor or pharmacist. If in doubt ask your doctor or pharmacist.
Calmiox is for external use.
- Adults and adolescents from 12 years: Apply a thin film on the affected area. The normal dose is 1 or 2 applications a day.
- Children under 12 years: consult a doctor.
- Use in people over 65 years of age: consult a doctor.
Wash hands thoroughly after use.
Do not apply more than 7 days in a row without consulting a doctor, in any case.
