What Locetar medicated nail varnish is and what it is used for
Locetar contains amorolfine as an active ingredient, which belongs to a group of medicines known as antinfungals (used to treat infections caused by fungi and yeasts).
This medicine is indicated in the treatment of infections caused by fungal toenails, from mild to moderate severity, in adults.
You should see a doctor if it worsens or does not improve after 3 months
How to use Locetar medicated nail varnish
Always take this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. If in doubt, check with your doctor or pharmacist again.
Method of administration: cutaneous use (only for use on nails, should not be applied to the skin around the nails).
Locetar should only be used by adults.
Apply the solution, 1 or 2 times a week, only on the affected fingernails or toenails. Try to associate the use of the medicinal varnish with a hygiene habit, on any day of the week that you choose and keep this routine for the duration of the treatment.
The required duration of treatment will basically depend on the severity and location of the infection. It will usually be 6 months on fingernails and 9-12 months on toenails.
If symptoms worsen or new symptoms appear, the clinical situation should be reevaluated. In the case of not observing improvement in 3 months of treatment, a doctor should be consulted.
General hygiene measures should be applied in order to avoid the appearance of other infections or relapses.
Regular trimming of the nails is recommended to remove parts of the infected nail.
In the case of co-existence of tinea pedis, it must be treated with the appropriate antifungal cream.
If in doubt, a doctor or pharmacist should be consulted.
