Fortasec works by reducing secretions and intestinal movements.
It is indicated in adults and adolescents from 12 years old to treat diarrhea
What FORTASEC 2 mg hard capsules are and what they are used for
It is an antidiarrheal medicine that reduces intestinal movements and secretions, which produces a decrease in liquid stools.
It is indicated for the symptomatic treatment of acute non-specific (occasional) diarrhea in adults and children from 12 years of age.
You should see a doctor if it gets worse or does not improve after 2 days.
How to take FORTASEC 2 mg hard capsules
Always take this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. If in doubt, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
The recommended dose is:
Adults
2 capsules (4 mg) as initial dose followed by 1 capsule (2 mg) after each diarrheal stool.
The maximum adult dose is 8 capsules (16 mg) per day.
Children over 12 years old
1 capsule (2 mg) as initial dose followed by 1 capsule (2 mg) after each diarrheal stool.
In children the maximum daily dose should be related to body weight:
. Children from 47 kg should not take more than 7 capsules a day.
. Children from 40 kg should not take more than 6 capsules a day.
. Children from 34 kg should not take more than 5 capsules a day.
. Children from 27 kg should not take more than 4 capsules a day.
Take the capsules with a full glass of water.
Patients with liver disease: They should consult a doctor.
Advanced age and patients with kidney disease
Follow the same indications described for adults and children over 12 years old
Use in children and adolescents
Children under the age of 12 cannot take this medicine. It is contraindicated.
If you take more FORTASEC 2 mg, hard capsules than you should
Taking too many capsules can cause abnormal coordination, stupor, pupil contraction, increased muscle tension, difficulty breathing (children are more sensitive to these effects than adults), and reduced urine output.
In case of overdose or accidental ingestion, consult your doctor or pharmacist, or call the Toxicology Information Service, Telephone 91 562 04 20 (indicating the medicine and the amount ingested).
If you forget to take FORTASEC
Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.
